Pend Oreille County is committed to protecting the integrity of our local land boundaries through the recently adopted Survey Monument Preservation Policy. Recognizing that survey monuments are vital public assets, this policy establishes rigorous standards for their protection during road construction and maintenance projects. As part of this commitment, the Public Works Department has launched a dedicated effort to recover "legacy" monuments—markers that were inadvertently buried or paved over during past roadwork.
We invite private surveyors and the public to assist in these recovery efforts by identifying markers currently hidden beneath the roadway. If you discover a monument located below the paved surface of a county roadway—whether it is in a visible case or completely covered—please report its location using the tool below. Your input allows the county to prioritize these sites for restoration, ensuring these essential markers are raised to the surface and properly protected for future use.
