Who is SWAC?

SWAC is a committee of volunteer citizens that represents a balance of interests, including:

  • Public Interest Groups     
  • Business Community      
  • Solid Waste Industry     
  • Agriculture
  • North Pend Oreille County    
  • Mid Pend Oreille County       
  • South Pend Oreille County
  • County at Large   
  • Small Cities and Towns

 

CHAPTER 70A.205.110(3) of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW)

Each county shall establish a local solid waste advisory committee to assist in the development of programs and policies concerning solid waste handling and disposal and to review and comment upon proposed rules, policies, or ordinances prior to their adoption. Such committees shall consist of a minimum of nine members and shall represent a balance of interests, including, but not limited to, citizens, public interest groups, businesses, the waste management industry, agriculture, and local elected public officials. The members shall be appointed by the county legislative authority.

 

SOLID WASTE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SWAC) has nine (9) openings. The committee is to assist in the development of programs and policies concerning solid waste handling and disposal and to review and comment upon proposed rules, policies, or ordinances prior to their adoption per (RCW 70A.205.110(3)). Members shall be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and will appoint persons representing a balance of interests, including but not limited to citizens, public interest groups, business, the waste management industry, and local elected public officials. Members shall serve a three (3) year term. Meetings are held twice per year (Spring and Fall).
