Pend Oreille County Needs Your Participation

The following Boards have vacant positions. If interested in any of these, please submit a letter of interest along with an informational statement:

BOARD OF EQUALIZATION (BOE) has an opening for a citizen interested in serving as an alternate member to complete a 3-year term expiring December 31, 2026. The BOE functions as an appeals board to hear tax assessment appeals and to act as an equalization board. There is a $100/day stipend per meeting. 

CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION has one opening for a vacated term starting immediately and ending 12/31/2028. The Board meets every 4th Thursday of the month at 1:00 pm. This is an unpaid voluntary position. Mileage is reimbursable. No experience necessary. Pursuant to RCW 41.14.030, members must be a US Citizen and a resident of Pend Oreille County for the past 2 years. Member must sign a political party affiliation statement per RCW which states in part: “at the time of appointment, not more than 2 commissioners shall be adherents of the same political party.” Currently, a non-Republican pollical party affiliation is applicable. No member after appointment shall hold any salaried public office or engage in county employment, other than his or her commission duties. For additional information, see RCW 41.14.030 (Revised Code of Washington).

The general purpose of RCW Chapter 41.14 is to establish a merit system of employment for county deputy sheriffs and other employees of the office of county sheriff, thereby raising the standards and efficiency of such offices and law enforcement in general.

NOXIOUS WEED CONTROL BOARD has an opening in District #4. This Board is charged with the cooperative control and management of noxious weeds, develops and manages Weed Board policy, adopts the County weed list which identifies mandatory weed control, reviews and oversees the annual budget, responds to community inquiries or complaints, and holds public hearings on new weed policy. See website for more information at www.pendoreille.gov/weed-board. Members are appointed from five districts to 4-year terms (RCW 17.10.050). Meetings are the second Wednesday of the month at 2:00 p.m. at the Weed Board Office.
