Marriage Licenses
 

Please follow the instructions below to apply for your marriage license.

  • Effective July 27, 2025, the fee to issue a marriage license will increase from $54 to $154. Any marriage applications received in person or by mail after close of business July 25, 2025, are subject to the additional fees.
  • There is a 3-Day waiting period.
    • After obtaining a marriage license, Washington State has a mandatory 3-day waiting period which cannot be waived.
  • The marriage license is valid for 60 days after the issuing. The 3-day waiting period does not begin until you have purchased your license.

To apply in-person or by mail:
 

1. Fill out the online application.


To apply in-person:

  • Complete the online application.
  • Click “submit application” and make note of the application ID.
    • Printing a receipt is not required.
  • Both parties must be present in the office.
  • You must bring a government issued picture ID and be 18+ years of age.
  • Review paperwork and pay all applicable fees.
  • The marriage license will be issued at the time of payment.


To apply via the mail:

  • Complete the online application.
  • Fill out Marriage Application Affidavit
  • Both parties must sign the application affidavit in front of a notary public.
  • Mail the notarized application along with the marriage license fee by check or money order.
  • Marriage packet will be mailed to the residence listed on the marriage application, unless otherwise indicated by the applicants.
  • Mail notarized application to:

Notice RCW 26.04.170: All marriage applications are public record and may be published in the local newspaper.

 

2. Get married.


Once you have your marriage license and your 3-day waiting period has passed, you can get married! Have your original marriage certificate and the Washington State Department of Health form signed by your witnesses, officiant, and yourselves.

 

3. Return signed marriage certificate and obtain certified copy.


After you’re married, you MUST return the original, signed, marriage certificates to the Auditor’s Office. You can return your paperwork in-person yourself, via a trusted third party, or you can mail it to the Auditor’s Office.

  • If you choose to mail your certificates to the office, we will send your certified copy to the address on your application unless otherwise indicated.
