Salary Range 3,739.63 3,956.55     4,715.12

 

Hiring Range: $3,739.63 - $3,956.55 per month

JOB SUMMARYThis position requires a substantial level of coordination with Solid Waste employees, the public, commercial haulers and other County Employees.  Coordinates with employees to operate recycling, household hazardous waste activities, and refuse collection at County Solid Waste Transfer Stations. The position supports the “Adopt a County Road” program, this program assists with picking up litter on county lands and public right-of-ways. This position is responsible for emergency response and support. 

This position requires a Class “A” CDL (or a Class “B” CDL with the commitment to upgrade within a year), excellent communication skills, and physical fitness for outdoor and manual work. The role involves operating and maintaining equipment at County Transfer Stations, performing waste disposal tasks, and handling hazardous materials safely.

Key Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Class “A” CDL (or Class “B” CDL with intent to upgrade).
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Mechanical aptitude for equipment maintenance and tool use.
  • Familiarity with MSDS sheets and accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Capacity to work independently, operate machinery, and manage daily tasks.
  • Certifications for refrigerant recovery and HAZWOPER (or willingness to obtain).

Essential Job Functions:

  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment (e.g., front-end loaders, forklifts, roll-off trucks).
  • Perform site upkeep, manage waste flow, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Provide hazardous waste disposal assistance and public information on recycling.
  • Conduct periodic tasks like water sampling and refrigerant extraction.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily outdoor work with exposure to extreme weather, noise, and chemicals.
  • Involves heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs.), standing, and climbing.
  • Requires strong communication skills, punctuality, and self-motivation.

This is a hands-on role focused on safe, efficient waste management operations at County Transfer Stations. Regular in-person attendance is required.

Successful background checks, drug screenings, and driving records checks are required at the time of offer and before the start date.
