Two Positions Available
Temporary/Seasonal work - varied hours over the next 3 to 4 weeks
Wage Rate: $18.54 per hour
Non-benefitted position with accrued sick leave per Washington State law only.
JOB SUMMARY: Provides support for the Election office. Main duties will be to pick up ballots at drop box locations throughout the General Election. Also, general clerical or routine technical tasks related to the election process. Work is generally repetitive wherein discretion or judgment is limited by established procedural steps or general rules. Tasks performed are specific in nature and are normally part of a larger work process. A supervisor is usually available to advise or assist as necessary and review work performed for accuracy. This position will also be part of the team that picks up ballots regularly from the drop boxes. Works cooperatively and effectively with the public and other employees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to frequently lift mail trays full of ballots.
- Must successfully pass a background check, a driving record check, and a pre-employment physical.
- May be required to successfully complete signature verification training upon employment.
- Must have reliable transportation to pick up ballots at ballot drop boxes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Pick up ballots from drop boxes.
- Review and process new voter registration applications, name changes, and address changes.
- Assist the public in understanding the voter registration process, forms, and/or procedures.
- Performs duties involved in mail-in ballot processing (i.e. initial ballot inventory, ballot mailing, daily returned ballot reconciliation, daily returned ballot data entry to voter registration system, ballot processing, and ballot security).
- Verify the authenticity of voter signatures on returned mail ballots and petitions.
- Maintain inventory of un-voted ballots.
- Assist with election certification.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Must work effectively with the client, public, community partners and other employees.
- Perform other duties and assignments as requested by the Elections Supervisor
WORKING ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Work is performed in an office setting with periods of standing, sitting, and kneeling. Hand-eye coordination and fine manipulation skills are necessary to operate computers and various office machines. This position also requires good listening skills and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Regular and punctual attendance is required. Because of the nature of this position, duties must be performed during regular hours within the department (no telecommuting).
