Job Title: Mail Clerk (Part-time)

Job Overview:
The Mail Clerk is responsible for picking up, sorting, and delivering mail among various county offices in Newport and the local U.S. Post Office. The role includes operating an electronic postage meter to weigh and stamp outgoing mail, completing required paperwork, and performing other related duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pick up and deliver mail between county offices, the Newport Post Office, and other government locations
- Weigh and stamp outgoing mail and packages using an electronic postage meter
- Complete related mail processing paperwork
- Perform other assigned duties as needed
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Reliable transportation with proof of insurance
- Strong communication skills and ability to read and write in English
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must successfully complete a background check and motor vehicle record check
- Must successfully complete a fingerprint criminal background check
Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and requires standing, walking, climbing stairs and inclines, and carrying mail containers weighing up to 50 pounds. Employees may be exposed to noise and extreme weather conditions. Strong communication skills, regular attendance, and punctuality are required. The position is a split-shift schedule Monday through Friday, primarily working Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday working 1-2 hours in the AM and 1-2 hours in the PM, with additional coverage as needed for vacations. Due to the nature of the job, all duties must be performed on-site during regular department hours; telecommuting is not available.
