Duties: The Civil Deputy is a non-sworn position subject to the direct supervision of the Administrative Assistant and is responsible for administrative support, bookkeeping, and coordinating technical civil paper services to contribute to complete, accurate, and legal records maintenance and timely civil and criminal paper service.
The Civil Deputy contributes to the effective, timely administration of the judicial system by assisting in coordinating the execution of civil processes in accordance with the Revised Code of Washington (RCW), other statutory requirements, and Sheriff’s Office Rules, Regulations, and Procedures.
Assure the proper control of Sheriff’s Office money by receiving, recording, balancing, and/or transmitting all funds received by the Civil Section to the Administrative Assistant.
May be required to personally serve civil processes. Is responsible for entering data into the Western States Information Network (WISN).
Administers the Concealed Pistol License (CPL) permit and application process to include fingerprinting applicants (as well as for other purposes) and conducting criminal history checks.
Is responsible for administering the sex offender registration program and all duties associated therewith.
Is responsible for the dissemination of records and reports to the appropriate recipients; process requests for copies of reports; release local criminal history to law enforcement agencies and personnel.
Shall routinely type reports concerning work activities and other required documents using a computer word processor; will employ computerized spreadsheets in the performance of his/her duties; will routinely access and employ Sheriff’s Office computerized databases for information needed to perform the duties of his/her office.
Is responsible for receiving public requests for service via telephone and/or in person.
Performs other duties as may be required.

HIRING RANGE: Step 1 $3,889.73 to Step 3 $4,126.61/month DOE

Position Test Testing Requirments: Typing Test: 40 WPM with a 90% accuracy (a pass or fail 5-minute test). Your keyboarding appointment will be set at the time you file your application (subject to the Chief Examiner’s schedule). You must test within two weeks of submitting your application. You must pass the typing test to take the Written Exam which will be scheduled upon passing the typing test (can be same day). Allow 2 hours for the written test. Test location: County Courthouse, Commissioner’s Office 625 W. 4th St. Newport, WA 99156. Upon passing the Civil Service Exams your application will be forwarded to the sheriff’s office where you will be subject to further testing, such as polygraph, etc
GENERAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS required of all applicants prior to entering the classified service are:
1. Must be a U.S. citizen at the time of appointment.
2. Must speak the English language clearly, fluently, and at a normal conversational rate.
3. Must read, write legibly, and spell correctly in the English language.
4. Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent.
5. Must be at least eighteen years of age at the time of appointment.
6. Must pass a polygraph examination to determine if the applicant is prone to violating the laws of Washington State or the United States.
7. Must submit to a psychological evaluation to determine the applicant’s suitability for employment in the position being sought.
8. Must cooperate in a background investigation to determine the applicant’s suitability for employment in the position being sought.
